Most people recognise that e-cig batteries are the only ones that may pose danger when using e-cigarettes. What most of us don’t realise is that e-liquid is equally dangerous if not stored properly or if it is used irresponsibly. The nicotine in e-liquid can be poisonous if ingested. You need to research the correct dosage and handling to make sure that you use it safely. Additionally, if you know the basic safety rules, there is no need to worry. Here are some basic e-liquid safety instructions that you need to remember:

1. Keep E-Liquid in a Cool Dark Place That Children and Pets Can’t Reach

If you choose an e-liquid that produces a sweet taste, then it will probably smell as sweet when it is in its bottle. Small children and pets can be oblivious to the dangers and just put everything into their mouths. So, remember to store your e-liquid away from children and pets. If needed, get a storage box that has a lock on it.

2. If You Get E-Liquid on Your Body, Wash It off As Soon As Possible

For adults, 50-60 mg of nicotine is fatal. If you are vaping a 24 mg/ml nicotine e-liquid per ml you ingest 24 mg of nicotine. However, the ingestion is spaced out over the amount of time it takes for you to vape each ml. If you spilt 3ml of 24mg/ml e-liquid on your skin, then that’s immediately 72 mg of nicotine. It is important to wash any spillage on skin or clothes immediately with soapy water. Also, never even attempt to wipe it off your pants or lick it off your fingers.

3. If You Find Yourself Chain-Vaping, Use a Lower Nicotine Concentration

Each person has a different level of nicotine tolerance. Most people smoke cigarettes in 10-minute bursts throughout the day and vapers can start with a higher nicotine concentration level than they can tolerate in their e-liquid. However, if you find yourself feeling nauseous, light-headed or you feel like your heart is pounding in your chest, put your e-cigarette down immediately as this can be symptoms of nicotine poisoning. If you are chain-vaping, lower your e-liquid's nicotine concentration. Concentration varies from 0mg/ml to 32 mg/ml, choose what you think suits you and adjust accordingly.

4. If You Have a Propylene Glycol (PG) Sensitivity, Use 100% Vegetable Glycerin (VG) E liquid

Propylene Glycol or PG is found everywhere. It is used as a sanitising agent in medical facilities, inhalers and fog machines. It is also considered a common preservative. However, there are people who are sensitive to PG or have a full-blown allergy to it. So, if you are experiencing an itch in your throat that doesn’t disappear after a few weeks, stop using PG. No need to worry as there is an alternative. Most e-liquid vendors have PG-free e-liquid varieties. Just remember that not all flavours are totally PG-free as some of the flavourings contain PG within them. These are just some of the e-liquid safety reminders that you need to keep in mind.
