How Many Nic Shots? How to Mix Nic Shots with 50ml & 100ml Shortfills

How to Mix Nic Shots with 50ml & 100ml Shortfills

If you’ve ever bought a 50ml or 100ml shortfill and wondered “How many nic shots do I add?” — this guide breaks it down clearly and simply.

At The Vape Escape, we’re often asked how to mix shortfills correctly to achieve the right nicotine strength. Whether you prefer 3mg, 6mg or something stronger, here’s everything you need to know.

What Is a Shortfill?

A shortfill is a large bottle of nicotine-free e-liquid with space left at the top for you to add nicotine.

For example:

  • 50ml shortfill – usually comes in a 60ml bottle (10ml space for a nic shot)

  • 100ml shortfill – usually comes in a 120ml bottle (20ml space for nic shots)

Nic shots in the UK are typically 18mg nicotine in 10ml bottles.

Mixing Nic Shots with a 50ml Shortfill

A standard 50ml shortfill has room for one 10ml nic shot.

➤ Add 1 x 18mg Nic Shot

You will get approximately 3mg nicotine strength in the final 60ml bottle.

This is the most common setup for sub-ohm vapers.

If you want stronger than 3mg, you would need more space in the bottle, which most 50ml shortfills don’t allow.

Mixing Nic Shots with a 100ml Shortfill

A 100ml shortfill usually comes in a 120ml bottle, meaning it can hold two 10ml nic shots comfortably.

➤ Add 1 x 18mg Nic Shot

You’ll get roughly 1.5mg nicotine strength across 110ml.

➤ Add 2 x 18mg Nic Shots

You’ll get approximately 3mg nicotine strength across 120ml.

This is the most popular option for regular sub-ohm users.

Quick Nicotine Strength Guide

50ml Shortfill (60ml final volume)

  • 1 nic shot = ~3mg

100ml Shortfill (120ml final volume)

  • 1 nic shot = ~1.5mg

  • 2 nic shots = ~3mg

If you prefer 6mg or higher, you may be better suited to 10ml e-liquids or nic salts, especially if using a pod kit.
